THE Bendigo Football-Netball League will hold off the potential introduction of a new 15-under netball competition until at least 2020.
The BFNL and its clubs have held recent discussions about the merits of introducing 15-under as a sixth grade of netball for next year.
However, following feedback from clubs the league won’t be adding a 15-under age group next year, with the proposal to again be investigated ahead of the 2020 season.
“As a concept the proposal has significant merit. But due to a lack of time and tight deadlines surrounding the implementation of the new competition for 2019, we feel the best approach is to further develop the concept prior to implementation,” BFNL manager Cameron Tomlins said on Tuesday.
“We appreciate the benefits the proposed competition could have to junior netball pathways in the BFNL and the strength and sustainability of the competition, but also need further time to consider the impact the competition may have.”
A snapshot of feedback from clubs included: the introduction of the competition placing further unnecessary pressure on clubs for 2019 given lack of time for proper implementation; interest in competing provided all 10 clubs are represented; and travel concerns for players/families already involved in local association teams.
