“In today’s world, trust is the new currency,” managing director Marnie Baker said during her address at Bendigo’s Ulumbarra Theatre on Tuesday.
Days earlier, Deloitte released the findings of its first ‘trust index’ into banking.
Of the 2072 participants in the research, only 36 per cent felt their bank had their best interests at heart.
Less than half of the survey respondents trusted their bank to keep its promises.
Deloitte found people in rural and regional areas had more faith in their banks than their urban counterparts.
Ms Baker said Roy Morgan had listed Bendigo Bank as the country’s most trusted banks, and one of the Australia’s most trusted brands.
“In an environment when many are disillusioned with their current bank, the time for our bank to cement our position as Australia’s bank of choice is now,” she said.
She said the trust people had in Bendigo Bank had been earned by doing exactly what the bank said it would do, and was something the bank would need to live up to.
