THE Bendigo Braves are looking forward to their next chapter following their inclusion as one of 18 teams in a new competition that will replace the South East Australian Basketball League.
Basketball Victoria has issued its 18 inaugural licences for its new “senior elite league” that is as yet still un-named.
“It’s exciting for the Bendigo Basketball Association and the Braves to know that we will be part of this new competition,” Bendigo Stadium general manager of sport Ben Harvey said.
“It’s important we retain pathways for our athletes, coaches and referees and allowing them to participate in a really good level of basketball is a key.”
The new competition is being established after Basketball Australia withdrew its support of the SEABL.
From this year’s SEABL clubs, Mt Gambier, Canberra and Sydney Uni haven’t been included in the competition.
Knox, Ringwood, Waverely and Eltham are inclusions from the Big V league.
“Throughout metropolitan Melbourne, regional Victoria and Tasmania, players can aspire to be part of this elite competition and we look forward to creating the number one option for winter basketball in Australia,” Basketball Victoria chief executive officer Nick Honey said.
