By Thursday morning, more than 1600 people had put their names down for the event, but Bendigo Health Foundation manager Rachel Mason said organisers were expecting hundreds more last minute sign-ups.
“It’s because everyone looks at the weather and their commitments in the lead up to race day,” she said.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a balmy 26 degrees for Sunday. Skies are predicted to be partly cloudy with a slight chance of a shower in the morning and afternoon.
Organisers will be signing people up Friday and Saturday at Bendigo Bank’s offices in the CBD and will also accept registrations on the day runs begin.
Participants do not have to run the course if they would prefer not to. Mrs Mason said there will be plenty of people walking it.
“It’s going to be a really family friendly, fun day. There will be healthy breakfast activities for the kids and the colour-component will be a lot of fun,” she said.
That component will see those who want it showered in colour as they embark on their races.
Mrs Mason said there will even be a few surprises around the course.
“We’ve got different groups singing and mucking around. So it will be a really fun day,” she said.
The fun run is the town’s biggest running event and a major fundraiser for the Bendigo Health Foundation.
Last year, it raised $109,737.89.
The money will this year go towards Bendigo Health’s residential care appeal.
A $3.5 million development to two of Bendigo Health’s aged care facilities is currently underway.
The goal is to link Golden Square’s Carshalton House Hostel and Golden Oaks Nursing Home with a central entrance and incorporate a large lifestyle room, cinema, cafe, palliative care room, treatment room, staff room, management offices and a new reception.
