The kindergarten, operated by Shine Bright, was successful in its application for $350,000 from the state government.
Enrolment at the site has grown in recent years as an increasing number of families move to the Huntly area, resulting in the kindergarten outgrowing its small facilities. The upgrade will also allow for three-year-old kindergarten programs and a playgroup.
The Allied Health room will allow for nurses to engage with families about the health of their child.
Huntly was the second kindergarten to receive funding from the state government in recent weeks, joining a planned kindergarten to be built at the entrance to the Westbury Estate in Maiden Gully.
The Maiden Gully project has a cost of between $5 million and $6 million, and will also include Allied Health services along with GPs and maternal health nurses.
Jacinta Allan – running for another term as Member for Bendigo East – announced the funding for Huntly earlier this week.
She said having integrated services would improve access to maternal and child health.
“Investment in the early years is a no brainer – there’s nothing that is more impactful than supporting education and development in these vital years,” Ms Allan said.
