The pair have already put on 18 for the sixth wicket after the Lions had one stage been 5-22.
Earlier, Maiden Gully’s Mitchell Van Poppel was the catalyst for the Lions bowling the Tigers out for 194.
Van Poppel (5-23) bagged five wickets, including James Smith (1) and Alex Collins (0), who he bowled in consecutive deliveries.
As well as Van Poppel’s five-for, Rob Brown also gave his bowling average an early-season boost, taking 3-1 off 1.4 overs.
United’s Mac Whittle made the most of the opportunity to open the batting, crunching 68 off just 58, which included 13 boundaries, as part of a first-wicket partnership of 87 with fellow recruit Rob Gilchrist (17).
From 0-87, the Tigers soon fell to 6-119 before a steadying 64-run partnership between Sidebottom (39) and Troy Young (27).
SEDGWICK V SPRING GULLY
• Spring Gully’s star all-rounder Rhys Webb now has both a century and five-wicket haul just three rounds into the season.
Webb – who made 124 with the bat against Maiden Gully last round – was influential with the ball for the Crows in the grand final rematch against Sedgwick, jagging 5-54 off 17 overs.
The Rams compiled 8-240 off their 75 overs, which featured a quickfire 61 off 50 from Simon Marwood.
Webb’s five wickets included the scalps of both Marwood and opening batsman Greg Thomas (43), who was coming off an unbeaten 150 the previous week.
WEST BENDIGO V EMU CREEK
• A fine all-round performance from Luke Bennett has Emu Creek in a strong position to defeat West Bendigo.
After the Emus were sent in, opener Bennett compiled 66 off 122 with 11 boundaries in Emu Creek’s tally of 240.
Bennett (3-12) later snared three wickets as the Redbacks went to stumps on the ropes at 3-24, with key batsman Travis O’Connell (0) already among those out.
As well as Bennett’s 66 during Emu Creek’s innings, the Emus also had No.9 Cameron Carter (52) make a half-century.
Recruit Kane Newton was the best of the Redbacks’ bowlers with 3-30.
MARONG V CALIFORNIA GULLY
• Marong looks poised to win its opening game of the season, needing just 29 more runs with seven wickets in hand against California Gully.
The Panthers will resume their run-chase next Saturday at 3-92 in reply to the Cobras’ 120.
The Cobras had been 3-85 after they won the toss and batted first, but lost 7-35 to be all out in the 37th over.
Like he did the previous round, Shaun O’Shea (30) top-scored for the Cobras.
Jayden Laubsch (3-22) and leg-spinner Dean Cosgriff (3-28) claimed three wickets apiece for the Panthers and wicket-keeper Scott Ross took four catches.
MANDURANG v SPRING GULLY – one day match, Sunday

Lachlan Brook (71) and Jesse Marciano (54 n.o.) both made half-centuries in the Crows’ 4-220 off 40 overs batting first.
Mandurang was all out for 166 in reply, with Matt Pask (77) the mainstay of the Rangas’ innings.
