Kangaroo Flat’s Ruby Barkmeyer, Sandhurst’s Sophie Shoebridge and Gisborne’s Keara Fitzgerald have been selected in the 19-and-under age group, while Castlemaine’s Chloe Langley and Sandhurst’s Ruby Turner are part of the 17-and-under squad.
A sixth central Victorian has also advanced to the next phase with Lara Judd, from the Echuca and District Netball Association, also picked in the 17-and-under squad.
The two squads were selected after an inter-academy weekend and screening day.
Fifty players in total will trial for selection in the 17-and-under division, while 40 have been named in the 19-and-under bracket.
Kangaroo Flat and Geelong Cougars VNL goal shooter Barkmeyer is attempting back-to-back state team selections, after representing Victoria at this year’s national championships in Adelaide.
Fellow 19-and-under team aspirants Shoebridge and Fitzgerald were the two youngest players on court in this season’s BFNL grand final, won by Sandhurst by six goals in extra time.
