ACT Natimuk’s Poppet Bendigo used animations, artwork and performances created by more than 100 locals to wow audiences.
Creative producer Greg Pritchard said the crew was very happy with the performance.
“Everyone oohhed and ahhed at the right time,” he said.
“It was a pretty good show considering we only had one full dress rehearsal. It was extremely pretty and the crowd was blown away by the aerialists.”
A number of community groups performed below the poppet head with many aspects of the show proving popular.
“The mosaic mining scene that had a video game feel got a lot of laughs, the hip hop dancers got a huge cheer and Rodney Carter’s letter at the end was a great way to close the show,” Mr Pritchard said.
“Rodney’s letter had been part of earlier project – Love Letters to Dja Dja Wurrung Country – the first time I heard it, I knew we had to end the show like that.”
Mr Pritchard said the whole Bendigo community had been supportive of Poppet Bendigo.
“We have to thank the community, they have been so welcoming,” he said.
“It has been a joy to be here and a real pleasure to work up on top of the Rosalind Park poppet head.”
