Todd Newman Builders won Best Custom Home ($1 million to $2 million) and Regional Residential Master Builder of the Year at the Master Builders Association of Victoria awards this month for 59 Barkly Street, a residential build completed in February this year.
Company owner Todd Newman said the awards were rewarding to win, given the business’ focus on local and protecting the town’s landscape.
Mr Newman said establishing a strong team, both within the company and with subcontractors, contributed to the quality of the build and the attention to detail that led to the success at the awards ceremony.
He gave special mention to project manager Glenn Hamilton and leading carpenter Jake Marwood for their contributions to the award-winning build.
This month’s awards were not the first the company had attracted for this home – it had already collected three Housing Industry Association gongs.
Home owners Ros and John Bradbury said the success of the build resulted from great teamwork from all parties involved.
“It’s a really, really high-quality build, and that’s because of the people on it,” Mr Bradbury said, adding how fantastic it was to have such tradespeople in Bendigo.
Architect Lucas Hodgens, from Bendigo firm e+ architecture, was responsible for the design of the home.
When working on a project, Mr Hodgens said, it was important to think about builders who could not only interpret the drawings, but could collaborate on solving problems that could not be resolved on paper.
He said it was this ability to problem-solve and come up with the best result possible that made Todd Newman Builders stand out.
Todd Newman Builders will now compete against category winners from other states and territories at the National Excellence Awards in Canberra next month.
