The Invasive Species Council has called for a greater emphasis on costs of deer to individuals, the environment and agriculture.

The council said that despite a growing number of deer killed, recreational hunting had failed to stop the spread and increase of deer.
The 2017 deer harvest was Victoria’s largest on record, with about 106,000 deer taken, and 37,000 licensed recreational deer hunters.
Central Victoria is home to populations of fallow deer.
The draft strategy has been developed by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, and the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources.
The consultation period on the draft Victorian Deer Management Strategy closes on October 29. More information at: engage.vic.gov.au/draft-victorian-deer-management-strategy
