7.05pm – Councillors support a motion from Cr Andrea Metcalf calling for the City of Greater Bendigo to join a collective voice of Victorian local governments calling for more funding for waste recovery initiatives.
Cr Jennifer Alden said there was “optimism” that local councils could help to solve the future waste issues, once Eaglehawk landfill closes in the coming years.
She cited a study that showed 9.2 jobs are created for every 10,000 tonnes of waste that is recycled, compared with 2.8 jobs if the waste goes to landfill.
Cr Alden said making changes now would help the council achieve its goal of zero waste by 2036.

Cr Jennifer Alden said a lot had changed in Bendigo since the last review, and she welcomed the findings.

6.25pm – While discussing the annual report, Cr James Williams says Bendigo should not be despondent to miss out on any future fast rail plans.

6.15pm – Two questions this week, both from the Australian Services Union relating to home and community care.
A changed model is approaching in 2020, and questions related to whether the council could detail an internal review and if it was meeting best principles.
