Matthew Rowlands organised the Bendigo’s Big Night Out fundraisers after experiencing food poverty himself while growing up.
“Because I had received help from food share programs in the past, I saw Anti Poverty Week was coming up and wanted to be a part of it,” Mr Rowlands said.
“So reached out to Bendigo Food Share who were happy to be a part of it too.
“It’s also good that local businesses will benefit, a local charity will benefit and local people who are going out benefit by being involved.”
The Bendigo’s Big Night Out Fundraisers will include gold-coin donation trivia at the One Tree Hill Hotel on Thursday night at 7pm, a Friday night event at Flight Bar with Tom Harrington and a Saturday night event at Handle Bar with Rowands and Chris DeAraugo playing.
Bendigo Food Share volunteers will speak at each event with proceeds from food and drink sold donated to FoodShare.
“Every dollar donated to Food Share goes to 16 meals, so we’re aiming for $1000 which is 16,000 meals,” Mr Rowlands said.
