Thirty more patients will be able to receive treatments each week as a result of the boost to capacity.
An average of 32 treatments are performed at the cancer centre each day. There is one nurse to every three chairs in the ward.
The new Bendigo hospital opened in 2017 with 15 oncology chairs – three more than was offered at the old hospital.
This is the second consecutive financial year that Bendigo Health has increased the number of oncology chairs in the cancer centre by three.
Bendigo Health board chair Bob Cameron said the additional chairs spoke to the rising demand for oncology services at the hospital.
The director of the Cancer Centre, Leanne Anderson was unable to indicate how soon the health care group might need to further increase its capacity to provide cancer treatments.
