That quick thunderstorm produced 12mm of rain in Bendigo in just 10 minutes!
The Bureau of Meteorology has updated its severe thunderstorm warning for damaging winds.
The broadcast warns severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours.
Locations that could be affected include Bendigo, Echuca, Castlemaine, Kyneton, Shepparton and Seymour.
A warning for the Mallee has been cancelled.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony
- Keep clear of fallen power lines
- Keep clear of creeks and storm drains
- Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water
- Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks
- Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads
- Stay indoors if possible
- Avoid using the phone during the storm
- If you are outside, avoid sheltering under trees
- Listen to the radio for storm updates
- Switch off your computer and electrical appliances

Heavy rain has hit the Bendigo area as the storm moves through, with flash flooding reported on McIvor Road, Bendigo.

The storm warning area has been extended to include Echuca and Rochester.
Earlier: A severe thunderstorm warning with damaging winds and large hailstones has been issued for Bendigo and parts of central Victoria.
The warning, issued by the Bureau of Meterology at 12.21pm, covers an area stretching from Swan Hill and Kerang to near Echuca and down through Maryborough, Kyneton, Castlemaine and Daylesford.
The warning area is expected to broaden in the next few hours
The BOM said that thunderstorms were forming along a slow moving trough of low pressure in the eastern Mallee and are likely to move south-southeastward and strengthen this afternoon.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area and although a lesser risk, large hailstones are also possible in the warning area over the next several hours.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
