These factors ensure Rusty Hickman keeps the pedal to the metal.
And as long as whatever he is driving goes fast, he will give it a go.
Like most die-hard motorsport drivers, Hickman was born into a family of passionate racers.
The Bendigo-based racer plans to approach his maiden season as a World Series Sprintcar Championship contracted driver with a new approach.
His goal for the 2018-19 season is to improve his composure and consistency out on the track.
“I was a rookie during the last few seasons and I would always find myself making mistakes on the final laps,” Hickman said.
“This season I’m going to work on my composure behind the wheel, keep a level head and concentrate on what I’m doing.”
Hickman will race against some of the best drivers in Australian Sprintcar racing, an experience he described as “invaluable”.
“Hitting the road with World Series Sprintcars is a massive step for my family team and I, but it’s one that we are all very excited about,” he said.
With two years of experience as a Sprintcar racer, Hickman has a positive outlook for the season ahead.
Hickman will race this Saturday night for the season opener at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway.
