A learner driver who was caught driving while suspended, with no experienced driver in the vehicle and no L-plates displayed, has been convicted and fined $700.

Jamie Jenkins, 32, was sentenced in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to the offences.
He was intercepted in Morrison Street, Kangaroo Flat in February this year, a little over a month after his learner’s permit was suspended for three months after accumulating demerit points.
Jenkins told police he was driving to “get around”.
The man, who now lives in Yarrawonga, has never held a licence beyond a learner’s permit.
Magistrate Patrick Southey took into account Jenkins’ guilty plea when issuing the fine, which came with additional court costs of $124.30.
“You’re over 30, you’ve got to take the steps necessary to get a licence… It enables you to get jobs, go to the beach on a hot day, it opens up all sorts of things,” Mr Southey said.
