First appointed to the role for the 2018 season, Cowling, 22, had no second thoughts about taking on the position again.
“Super excited about it and just want to get straight into it and have another crack,” Cowling said.
On the back of the A Grade team’s 12 point loss to Sandhurst in the preliminary final, the goal is to be crowned as the champions at the end of the upcoming season.
“We did really well to get to the preliminary final last season and we’re hungry to get out there and do one better,” Cowling said.
Netball has always played a major role in Cowling’s life, as his earliest memory of the sport is watching his sister play, where he would take any opportunity during breaks to jump onto the court and shoot goals.
He is passionate and has an extensive history on the court as both a player and coach, a combination which Cowling believes has helped develop his skills in both departments.
“As a coach, It helps you understand what it takes to make individuals into better players,” he said.
“You are able to understand the training environment and how to get the best out of players by looking at their needs, which connects with the mutual objectives of the team.”
He has competed at a national level for the Australian under-23 team in 2016 and national under-20 in 2013-15.
Cowling’s approach to his role will not change. However, his goal is to retain the club’s key playing group with the addition of new players to the squad.
Still months away from when the season’s start, he said there was still a significant amount of planning and preparation which needed to be undertaken such as filling other coaching positions at the club.
KF FNC netball operations manager Catherine Wicks said Cowling was an enthusiastic individual who brought significant experience to the club.
“Jayden has been fantastic for the girls and they love his enthusiasm for the game,” Mrs Wicks said.
“He brings plenty of first-hand experience to the KF FNC and to have someone with all the skills is very beneficial.
“It’s a real credit to Jayden for getting the best out of all the girls last season and for them to make it all the way to the preliminary finals.”
