The past weekend saw 14 burn-offs on private land run out-of-control.
Escaped private burn-offs happen regularly, and contribute to the number of fires on public land each year.
Paul Bates district manager for FFMVic reminded people to check the CFA’s guidelines for safe burn offs.
“Land owners burning off on private land need to ensure their burns are regularly monitored until fully extinguished, so the fire does not escape onto public land,” he said.
“We would also like to remind people to follow the campfire safety rules leading up to a hot and dry fire season.”
Two recent fires in the district, one at Gower and one at Mia Mia, were caused by escaped burn offs.
Lighting and unattended campfires are the most common cause of fires.
