Joanne Rhodes, 39, pleaded guilty in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to offences including trafficking a drug of dependence, possession of cannabis, and supplying a drug of dependence to a child.
Magistrate Sarah Leighfield sentenced Rhodes to 15 days’ imprisonment, already served on remand, and a 12-month community corrections order.
The court heard Rhodes was pulled over in Eaglehawk in the early hours of September 20.
A search of her vehicle uncovered four knives, one of which was on a bottle opener, a small container of white powder, a bong and ice pipe, and a tin with bags inside.
Rhodes was seen to have something in her mouth, which was discovered to be a tin containing two ziplock bags of crystals believed to be methamphetamine, and a bud of cannabis.
She also had an ice pipe hidden in her bra.
Two mobile phones were seized, one of which had messages on it that suggested drug activity.
In one message, Rhodes invited a teenager to her house to smoke a bong.
The court heard police attended Rhodes’ home regularly and found vulnerable youth there, and they believed she supplied drugs to the young people who visited her.
After her arrest, Rhodes admitted possession of the cannabis and methamphetamine in her car, as well as having used methamphetamine that night.
But she denied knowledge of the white powder.
Rhodes’ defence lawyer Peter Baker said his client first began using drugs after the death of her mother last year.
He said Rhodes now understood the seriousness of the offence of supplying a drug to a minor and the importance of removing herself from drugs.
Mr Baker said his client had learnt her lesson while in custody, and asked for her to be sentenced to time served with a community corrections order, submitting this would help her remain off drugs.
Rhodes believed the white powder came from someone who had been in her car, he said.
Rhodes will return to court in December for judicial monitoring.
