Kenneth Brown pleaded guilty in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to several charges relating to thefts from shops in Bendigo and Echuca earlier this year, as well as an incident at a home in Eaglehawk last November.
Magistrate Sarah Leighfield sentenced Brown - who was already serving a 12-month jail term for burglary with a non-parole period of five months - to four months’ imprisonment.
Two months will be served on top of the current sentence, and the remainder concurrently.
He was also ordered to pay $2312 in compensation for stolen items and damage.
The court heard Brown was on bail from January while awaiting an appeal.
On March 3, he tried to buy a number of items from Bendigo Electronics using a stolen credit card, which was later recovered from a skip bin.
On the afternoon of March 28, Brown – with the assistance of an unknown male – stole a nail gun worth $495 by hiding it under his hoodie.
On May 12, CCTV captured Brown stealing a multi-tool, an impact driver and an impact wrench – worth $867 – from Bunnings in Echuca.
Brown also pleaded guilty to charges relating to an incident at Eaglehawk in November last year, in which he struck a man to the head and smashed windows of his home while intoxicated.
He was arrested in March and admitted to trying to use the stolen credit card. He did not deny the Eaglehawk incident, but said he could not remember it.
Brown’s defence lawyer Will May asked Magistrate Sarah Leighfield to be “moderate” in sentencing, submitting his client’s offending was not of the highest level.
But he conceded committing offences while on appeal bail was an aggravating factor.
In sentencing, Ms Leighfield said she took into account Brown’s relatively extensive prior criminal history, but noted his guilty pleas.
