Heathcote Winegrowers’ Association executive officer Chris Earl said the festival was regarded as one of the great wine and food celebrations throughout regional Victoria.
“There is no other festival like it which brings people together to celebrate the best food and wine produce,” Mr Earl said.
“Visitors will have access to more than 50 wineries from throughout the region at the festival.”
The festival is now in its 17th year, which attracts more than 4000 people from across Victoria.
The region is well-known for its flagship shiraz variety, which Mr Earl said was widely acclaimed across Australia and also internationally
However, in recent years Heathcote wine makers have started to take advantage of the area’s unique climate and have been growing Mediterranean varieties.
The festival is a family-friendly event with children’s activities and will feature live music by entertainers from the Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival.
Throughout the festival there will be multiple seminars from experts within the wine industry, which will provide an insight into the region’s different varieties.
“The festival continues to thrive and flourish after many years, it will be a great day of celebrations,” Mr Earl said.
The Heathcote Wine and Food Festival is a ticketed event and will be on this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, at the Heathcote Showgrounds in Caldwell Street starting at 10:30am.
