The world’s biggest water-ski race will be run for the 50th time next February.
To mark the anniversary, Moama Water Sports Club is launching a hall of fame, to recognise individuals or groups, who have contributed to the event’s success over the past 50 years.
MWSC president Steve Shipp said the inaugural inductees would be announced at hall of fame dinner on February 8 at the Victoria Park finish line.
“We are looking to ski racers and the public to help us identify people or groups of people, who have contributed to the Southern 80 over a number of years,” she said.
“In our recent move of our office to 10 Despatch Street, Echuca, we have been unpacking and looking at our history that has been packed away for a couple of years, noticing that some names are coming constantly to light.
“In 2019, this will be the 50th running of the Southern 80. We are asking for assistance to find worthy nominees.
“So, if you know someone that has been on the podium for over 10 years in the class that they have been competing, or it might be a skier who skied for a number of years and now observes, be sure to let us know.
“We want to find these Southern 80 heroes and acknowledge their contribution to our event.”
