The inaugural event takes place on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 October and will showcase the city’s heritage and its future, with major new development and progressive architectural interventions.
The sneak peek at the program includes the Beehive Building, where visitors will get a behind-the-scenes tour of a heritage listed building under construction.
The Beehive was once a bustling mining exchange and there are plans to reopen it once renovation works are complete. That is expected to happen by April 2019.
In the meantime, visitors to Open House Bendigo will be able to tour the ground floor and view the Victorian ceiling details once hidden by the first floor.
The Bendigo Hospital building will also be on show, as will the recently completed private residence B House.
The bespoke two-level B House was designed by e+ architecture and will be open to pre-booked tours over the weekend.
Todd Newman Builders just won three awards for their work on the house, with judges at the Housing Industry Association’s regional housing awards describing it as “simply stunning”.
“It does take your breath away every time you walk in,” Mr Newman said at the time.
The Open House Bendigo weekend will coincide with the Bendigo Sustainability Group’s Sustainable House Day on Sunday 27 October.
