IT has taken him six cracks at it, but Eaglehawk’s Glenn Daly finally has that elusive premiership medal he has been craving for more than 250 games.
While all 22 Eaglehawk players were met with plenty of cheers from the Borough faithful as they were called to the QEO grandstand to collect their medals after Saturday’s win over Strathfieldsaye, Daly’s seemed that little bit louder given his longevity with the club and what he has endured in the past.
Daly last month ticked over 250 open-age games for the Hawks and before Saturday he had suffered grand final defeat five times – three in the seniors and two in the reserves.
But the 32-year-old half-back is now finally an Eaglehawk premiership player to go along with his status as the only player in the club’s 138-year history to have won a senior, reserves and under-18 best and fairest.
“This is just unbelievable… it will take a while to sink in, but it’s a great feeling,” said Daly, who first played with Eaglehawk in the under-13s.
Daly is now both an Eaglehawk senior football and A Grade cricket premiership player after he was also a member of the Hawks’ winning 2005-06 BDCA grand final team.
