FIRST the cricket pitch; now the football field in September.
Eaglehawk forward Sean Williams is building a reputation for standing up in the games that matter the most.
On Saturday Williams booted a bag of five goals in the Hawks’ 49-point BFNL grand final victory over Strathfieldsaye at the QEO.
Williams’ performance on the big stage on Saturday came 18 months after a match-winning innings for Rochester United against Fire Brigade in the 2016-17 Goulburn Murray cricket grand final.
Chasing Fire Brigade’s 129, Williams’ unbeaten 45 from No.9 lifted United from 8-78 and then 9-108 to an against-the-odds one-wicket win.
Williams’ five goals on Saturday featured one in the first quarter, two in the second, and two in the last and capped a season in which he finished with 64.
Williams shared the premiership with his brother, Dillon, while the team also featured another set of siblings in on-ballers Brodie and Jesse Collins. Brodie won the AFL Victoria Medal.
