Mr Lennon was with GMW for almost two years.
City West Water board member Bill Jaboor will join the corporation as interim managing director as a permanent leader is sought.
He has more than 45 years of experience working in local government in Victoria and Queensland.

In the past 20 years, Mr Jaboor has been the chief executive of the cities of Greater Shepparton, Benalla, Brimbank and Hobsons Bay.
GMW chair Diane James said she was grateful Mr Jaboor had agreed to bring his ample expertise to the organisation as interim managing director.
“The search for a permanent managing director begins immediately”.
