Concerns with the town’s water pressure were one a range of issues raised with the Bendigo Advertiser during a visit to Elmore last month, with the IGA having to install its own water pump to meet council requirements.
Coliban Water urban services manager Carl Oliver said it was not unusual for businesses to have to add their own infrastructure to bring water mains pressure up to standard.
He said their data showed water pressure in Elmore was within range for urban customers.
“We have a pressure monitoring station in Margaret Street, Elmore. That station automatically reports back to our Bendigo office every five minutes, 24 hours a day. It has shown consistent pressure levels at all times,” Mr Oliver said.
“Some areas of our network experience changes in pressure during periods of peak demand.
“However, this is not the case with Elmore. The population would have to grow to three times as large for demand/pressure issues to occur.”
Coliban Water spent more than $1 million upgraded the Elmore water tower in 2014, including the addition of a disinfection unit and pH correction facility.
Its height – which determines the level of water pressure – has not been altered since its construction in the 1960s.
The tower will be considered for refurbishment or renewal close to 2030.
Coliban Water has been contacted by five Elmore customers in the last 12 months regarding water pressure.
