The Council to Homeless Persons released an interactive Homelessness Heat Map where in Victoria people are sleeping rough, living in rooming houses, or in severely overcrowded homes.
The map coincide with the release of CHP’s Homelessness Election Platform which calls for solutions to Victoria’s housing crisis.

The map is based on data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The map shows in Bendigo West 60 people are living in ‘severely’ crowded dwellings, 49 are couch surfing, 53 are in crisis accommodation, 16 in boarding houses and 13 are sleeping rough.
In Bendigo East 14 people are living in ‘severely’ crowded dwellings, 26 are couch surving, 92 are in crisis accommodation, 22 in boarding houses and 3 are sleeping rough.
Acting CEO of the Council to Homeless Persons Kate Colvin said that the data made it clear that homelessness is not just a problem in cities.
“Skyrocketing rents and a lack of social housing is driving homelessness in every electorate in Victoria,” Ms Colvin said.
Bendigo West has the 46th highest rate of homelessness of all electorates in Victoria, Ripon the 47th and Bendigo East the 57th.
The Council to Homeless Persons’ Homelessness Election Platform calls for action from political parties to build new public and community housing dwellings and close the gap on Aboriginal homelessness.
It also calls on parties to fund community support and early intervention to prevent homelessness and deliver targeted housing for people experiencing chronic homelessness.
