But earlier, nothing could halt Bridgewater advancing to a third-straight LVFNL B-grade premiership on Saturday.
The Mean Machine, brilliantly led by their coach and star goal shooter Kym Childs, defeated Maiden Gully YCW 57-43.
The Mean Machine and Eagles have dominated the B-grade competition in recent season and between them have won seven of the last eight premierships.
Bridgewater started confidently and led 13-7 at quarter time.
The Mean Machine were able to increase the led by four and six goals in the next two quarters, before the Eagles pegged back two goals in the final term to win by 14.
Childs, who scored 40 goals, said the final margin was a relief after the two teams played out a one goal thriller in last season’s premiership decider at Serpentine.
“We had a good margin over them in our first game this season, but in the second game they got us by two and in the semi-final they got us by three, so we were going in a bit worried about what might happen,” she said.
“We knew we had to be right on them in the first quarter and if we did we could push it from there and that’s exactly what we did.
“I don’t think I could pick a (coach’s) best player today, we just play for each other and I think it showed.”
The premiership line-up included a pair of young players in Ellie Wilson and Brigette Matthews, who formed the bench in the Mean Machine’s stunning A-grade triumph.
Matthews is one of two team members to have played in all three of the B-grade flag wins, alongside Carly Scholes.
The flag capped another stellar year for Childs, who has been coach for two in the streak of three premierships.
She has also won back-to-back league B-grade best and fairest medals.
Childs indicated she would be keen to lead the Mean Machine in their pursuit for a fourth-straight premiership.
“Especially if this group of girls comes back,“ she added.
