Primmer joins the Saints having coached Sandhurst’s 2016 Bendigo league premiership team and takes over from Luke Bell, who had been at the helm for the past two years.
“Heathcote is excited that we have secured a coach of Wayne’s calibre for two years,” Saints’ coaching committee chairman Brett Kelly said on Friday.
“He will bring a wealth of experience that will benefit our young list.”
Primmer has a lengthy coaching history that extends back to 1981 at Lalbert.
He takes over a Saints’ side that was 3-13 this year, while the club hasn’t played senior finals in the Heathcote District league since 2013.
