Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Keris Arndt said Mount Macedon would have to chance on a lucky shower at the same time as the cold front moved through to get snow.
“We’ll get a little throwback to winter on Saturday with showers coming through and cold air that would be that real prompter for snow risk,” Mr Arndt said.
“You’d really need to luck a shower going over Mount Macedon as the cold air goes through.”
Mr Arndt said snow this late in the season was unusual, but not unheard of.
He said this time of year meant variable weather, such as Tuesday’s warm and sunny day.
The chance of snow is thanks to a cold front which will move through the state from Friday night to Saturday morning.
Mount Macedon is forecast to reach 11 degrees on Saturday.
Bendigo is not expected to be quite as cold, with a forecast top of 15 degrees on Saturday and 13 on Sunday.
Mr Arndt said while snow was far from guaranteed, anyone hoping to catch a glimpse of white stuff should keep an eye on forecasts as the weekend draws closer.
