V/Line might still be below its punctuality targets but it hopes improvements are a sign of good things to come.
It blamed delays on the Bendigo line in August on hold-ups in shared sections of the network, trains stopping longer than the time allocated and train faults.
The latest performance figures show 87.8 per cent of services arrived at their destination on time in August, improving almost three percentage points compared with the previous month.
The reliability of services on the line also increased, with 97.2 per cent of services being delivered for the month compared with 95.6 in July and exceeding the reliability target of 96 per cent.
CEO James Pinder said V/Line was rolling out initiatives across the network to improve performance and the August figures showed the plan was producing positive results.
“We’ve been working really hard to improve our performance across the network so it’s really pleasing to see this is being reflected in the results,” he said.
“This is the third consecutive month of improvements in punctuality on the Bendigo line and the highest result since October last year.
“Through the work of our new performance managers, we’re focused on ensuring this continues and working hard to achieve our 92 per cent punctuality target.”
The figures show punctuality and reliability on the Swan Hill and Echuca lines also improved in August.
A total of 94.5 per cent of services arrived on time, making it the top performing line on the regional network and all scheduled services were delivered for the month, with 100 per cent reliability.
Across the network for August, punctuality achieved its highest result since October last year with 86.9 per cent of services arriving at their destination on time and improving one percentage point compared with July.
A total of 96.8 per cent of services were delivered across the network in August, exceeding the reliability target of 96 per cent.
