THE Bendigo Amateur Soccer League women’s championship already in its keeping, Shepparton United has taken the opportunity to remind its rivals its season is far from done.
United rounded out its championship season campaign with a convincing 14-0 win against Golden City and now has its sights on adding a grand final victory.
The 2018 championship winners will kick-off their finals campaign next week against second-placed Shepparton South.
Sharpshooter Sophie Papalia was again the star for United alongside Cayla Ruijters, as both players ended the day with four goals.
Seven players in total hit the scoresheet for United in an unquestionable show of strength.
The reigning premier finished the championship season with 18 wins, one loss and one draw, 10 points clear of nearest rtival Shepparton South (14-3-3).
Strathdale will enter next weekend’s semi-final encounter against Colts United on a high after defeating that same opponent 4-1 on Sunday.
Young gun Ellie Vlaeminck was in impressive form and contributed three goals, while Brigid McNamara added one.
The Blues team-mates have combined for 81 goals this season and will need to be stopped if Colts United is to progress deeper into the finals.
Stacey Chessum was the lone goal scorer for Colts United.
Strathdale has not been beaten since its 9-0 round seven drubbing against Shepparton United.
In that period they have forced draws with top pair United and Shepparton South.
Shepparton South warmed up for its finals tilt with a 6-0 win against Spring Gully.
South was again led by star striker Alicia Rowan, whose four goal contribution pushed her individual tally for the season to the 60-goal mark.
Swan Hill ended the season on a high with a 5-0 victory against Tatura, led by two goals from Rhiannon Goodfield, while Moama-Echuca confirmed its sixth-placed finish with a 4-3 win against Eaglehawk.
Natalie Sands scored twice for the Border Raiders.
Epsom had the bye and finished the season in fifth place after playing off in last season’s grand final.
