The Grasshoppers fell one hurdle short of playing in their eighth-straight grand final when they were beaten 13.21 (99) to 5.6 (36) by rivals Carisbrook in Saturday’s preliminary final at Princes Park.
The comfortable 63-point victory in which they had 34 scoring shots to 11 propels the Redbacks into their fifth-consecutive grand final and has created an opportunity for back-to-back premierships.
Carisbrook’s grand final opponent will be Natte Bealiba, which also had a big win by more than 10 goals in its preliminary final.
The Swans ended a string of four preliminary final losses in a row as they accounted for Harcourt 14.16 (100) to 5.6 (36) on Sunday at Princes Park to advance to their first grand final since they won the 2011 flag in their first year in the competition.
Carisbrook and Natte Bealiba will both carry 17-1 records for the season into next Saturday’s grand final at Princes Park.
In the A Grade netball flag decider Trentham will take on Carisbrook.
