The ASO tuned up for the festival with a rehearsal at Ulumbarra Theatre on Friday morning of BIFEM director David Chilsholms work And I Am But An Echo, A Ghost, A Mirror of Your Flower.
The Friday-night concert is a world premiere from BIFEM founder David Chisholm who wrote the piece this year.
In the same program, the ASO will also perform Into the Outer by Annie Hui-Hsin Hsieh and Tranquil Abiding by Jonathan Harvey.
On Saturday the ASO will present two rarely-performed iconic 20th century North American pieces.
The first is Morton Feldmans intimate portrait and homage For Samuel Beckett and Canadian composer Claude Viviers hauntingly beautiful Lonely Child, sung by the extraordinary Australian soprano Jane Sheldon.
US conductor Eric Dudley returns to BIFEM in 2018 for his first collaboration with the ASO.
The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra performs at Ulumbarra on Friday from 7.30pm. Tickets are $50.

The Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music is on from September 7 to 9 at various venues around the CBD.
