Bendigo Senior Secondary College’s language centre is the venue for this year’s event, which runs from 9.30am until about 3pm on Saturday, September 15.
The kits provide a clean birthing environment for women and their babies, helping to reduce the risk of infection-related deaths. Preventable infection is estimated to claim 385,000 mothers’ lives each year.
Each of the small, lightweight kits contains a plastic sheet, gauze, a sterile scalpel blade, clean cord, and soap and gloves.
One in every 11 kits is estimated to save a mother or a baby’s life.
The club aims to produce 2000 kits and has raised $6000 for the effort.
Bookings are not necessary, and volunteers are welcome to attend next Saturday’s assembly day for as long as they can spare.
