If re-elected, the Danial Andrews’ Labor Government has pledged $5 million to establish seven basketball training hubs in Victoria for junior development.
Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan announced on Monday that Bendigo would be the home of one of the seven hubs.
The training hub would see a dedicated high performance coach work with boys and girls in the under-14, 15, 16 and 18 age groups. A new program for players with a disability will also be included.
“This investment is a slam dunk for Bendigo’s young basketballers and their families,’’ Allan said.
“Having grown up playing for Bendigo Beavers, I know how many local kids have big dreams of playing basketball for Australia. With this investment, we’ll give them a pathway to get there.”
