BENDIGO’S Zoe Davies has capped a stellar Victoria Netball League season by being named best on court in City West Falcons’ eight goal championship win on Sunday.
The class goal defence saved her best for last as the Falcons defeated Geelong Cougars 56-48.
Her team-mates included a second Bendigo player, with Sandhurst defender Imogen Sexton also a member of the Falcons squad, which claimed the championship from fourth position with three-straight finals wins.
A dual A-grade BFNL premiership player with Kangaroo Flat, who switched to Eaglehawk in 2017, Davies made a return to City West Falcons this season after spending the previous VNL season with Monash University Storm.
Her coach Marg Lind told the Bendigo Advertiser in the lead-up to the grand final that Davies, who initially joined Falcons as a junior, had really blossomed as a netballer following her return to the Falcons’ nest.
“Zoe’s had a fabulous year and really come along in leaps and bounds,” she said.
“ She’s a totally new person, very dedicated and really fits our mould, so we have rewarded her with plenty of court time.”
Meanwhile, Sexton’s Sandhurst team-mate Meg Williams has come up short of a break-through VNL under-19 premiership with her club DC North East Blaze.
The Blaze lost a nail biter to Boroondara Express 60-58.
Williams and Sexton will be back on court for their BFNL club next weekend, with the Dragons’ scheduled to take on Gisborne in the second semi-final, with the victor earning automatic entry into this year’s grand final.
