CALIVIL United has climbed from third place to be the first team through to the LVFNL A-grade netball grand final.
The Demons made it two wins from two matches in this final series by winning a defensive battle at Pyramid Hill on Saturday by five goals.
Calivil United came from two goals down at three quarter time to overtake the Superoos and win 40-35.
The grand final appearance will be the Demons’ first since 2015 against Pyramid Hill.
Their comeback win was achieved without joint coach and leading defender Teigan Redwood, who will miss the rest of the finals series with an Achilles injury sustained during last weekend’s qualifying win against Bridgewater.
Her fellow coach Karen Pascoe again praised her players’ ability to dig deep after again trailing at three-quarter time.
“It was a very defensive game for both teams and we were certainly pleased to come away with the win,” she said.
“No team was in front by more than a few goals at any time during the game and we were down by two at three quarter.
“We finished off very well again. That experience is shining through.”
For the second week in a row, defenders Lauren Miller and Michelle Balic rated as Calivil United’s best, working strongly in tandem.
The Demons also got excellent service in the midcourt through Cassie-Anne Penno and 300-plus gamer Erin Boyd.
Pascoe predicted pre-finals that little would separate teams during this finals series.
Another close margin, following on from last week’s three goal win, has validated that assessment.
“For us in particular, we are very defensive all over the court,” she said.
“But both teams were very good defensively today.”
Mitiamo had strong contributors in wing attack Amelia Ludeman and defender Julia Twigg.
The game was the Superoos’ first since early August after they had byes in the opening two rounds.
They will now play the winner of Sunday’s first semi-final between Bridgewater and Maiden Gully YCW in next weekend’s preliminary final.
The Superoos are chasing a third consecutive grand final appearance.
Calivil United’s win was made even more special as it coincided with the 250th senior game of Demons stalwart Lauren Rogers.
