A KEY pillar of success in September is momentum and Colbinabbin is building it as it prepares for a shot at North Bendigo in Saturday’s Heathcote District league preliminary final.
Despite their inaccuracy in which they have kicked a combined 24.39, the Grasshoppers are still alive in the premiership race after winning cut-throat finals against Huntly (39 points) and Lockington-Bamawm United (13) the past fortnight.
“To win two finals against quality sides has been really good and has built us up nicely for a preliminary final against North Bendigo,” Colbinabbin coach Nick Knight said on Friday.
The Grasshoppers have regained two of their key players for the clash, with forward Ryan Hon and on-baller Mitch Bright both returning from shoulder injuries.
“We were cautious with both last week… we could have played them, but with another week of training under their belt they are both ready to go,” Knight said.
The Grasshoppers go into Saturday’s preliminary final at Toolleen having lost both home and away matches against the Bulldogs by margins of 31 and 56 points.

However, the Grasshoppers were able to turn around two home and away losses against Huntly into a win over the Hawks in the first semi-final last week.
“It’s a clean slate and all we’re focused on is executing the plans we put in place. If we do that for long enough we’ll give ourselves every opportunity,” Knight said.
“We know North Bendigo is a quality side... we respect how good they have been, but we’ve got to continue to ride our momentum.”
