Anyone can create their own paper daffodils, which will be attached to the parish’s front fence on High St, with the aim of raising awareness about cancer.
Parishioner Margaret Peach was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, 13 years later she has praised the support she received from her family and community.
“Cancer stops you in your tracks, you just have to let everything else go and just be,” Mrs Peach said.
“Here at St Mary’s we are a great community where we care and support each other, and I found this gave me great strength through my journey.
“To think that people were there to support me and praying for me provided me with a sense of peace and calm during the really low times.”
Mrs Peach also praised the endless support she received from her late husband, children and her sisters.
Reverend Tracey Wolsley from St Mary’s Anglican Church has visions of a sea of yellow flowers lining High Street.
“It’s a way for us to say we care, our hearts go out for you and that we will be praying for you,” Rev Wolsley said.
“When you are going through a hard time, knowing that you’re not alone and there are people out there who care is important.”
Students from Bendigo Special Development School, Kangaroo Flat P.S, Big Hill P.S, Lockwood South P.S and St Monica's P.S have already starting contributing to the flowers.
At 9am on Sunday there will be a service at St Mary's Anglican Church Kangaroo Flat, where attendees will be invited to light a candle in support for someone battling cancer or as a way to remember a loved one.
The service will also include prayers written by cancer survivor and parishioner Sandra Davey, which will reflect on her journey, highlighting the importance of support groups and faith.
Daffodil Day is a Cancer Council initiative that will take place on August 24, this year they hope to raise more than $4 million for research.
