Farewell, and thanks for keeping the pool afloat
As the outgoing president of the Golden Square Pool I feel compelled to write one last letter to the editor before I fade into the sunset! It has been my privilege to have been part of the rejuvenation of the Golden Square Pool since its new incarnation as a community run pool in 2012.

There are many people I would like to acknowledge.
The community of Golden Square and Greater Bendigo who have proven their belief in the ethos of an outdoor pool by attending in droves over the last 5 seasons. You have made our pool the viable concern it is today.
To the several committees of management that I have worked with since the beginning who have had great commitment and contributed their skills in differing ways, we have learnt much together!
To the band of amazing volunteers, a community run pool could not operate without your input. A huge thank you!
In my previous role as president I was at times overwhelmed by the generosity shown towards myself and the pool. Contractors, patiently taking my calls after hours and on weekends, always attending to the issue and many doing the job gratis. A special mention must go to White Hills Pool who have been in partnership with the Golden Square Pool for the last 2 seasons.
Thanks must also go to the councillors of the City of Greater Bendigo who came and experienced the pool and its environs for themselves, gave great suggestions to myself and the committee and voted unanimously to give the pool a reprieve for another two years. To the council staff who I liaised with, you also were patient and helpful with my myriad of questions and requests.

To the media of Bendigo – print, radio and TV – I thank you for your fair and respectful treatment of both myself and the plight of the Golden Square Pool.
I do have a wish. My wish is that the people of Golden Square and Greater Bendigo continue to support the Golden Square Pool. You can do this in many ways:
- Continue to swim at the pool
- Continue to hold celebrations of all sorts at the pool
- Come to swimming lessons at the pool
- Schools. Have your fun days and swimming carnivals at the pool
- Volunteer. You can do this for just one hour a week (kiosk, grounds maintenance, or helping on working bees.)
- Join or assist the committee.
The Golden Square Pool is a strong community recreational facility that is a place of connection and belonging, social cohesion and a fine example of community action and awareness.
Au revoir.
Bernadette Wright, Bendigo
Power dimming
Oh, the irony of it all.
While Malcolm [Turnbull] attempts to keep our energy costs down and our lights on, his power is about to be disconnected.
