For Anne Fraser, the secret is determination.
The Bendigo resident turned 100 on August 10, celebrating the occasion over a meal with close family members.
Mrs Fraser was born in Wellington, NSW in 1918 and has been living in Bendigo for the last 48 years.
One of the highlights of her life was working as a nurse in Dubbo during World War II.
“I nursed the soldiers before they went overseas for procedures such as having their tonsils taken out,” Mrs Fraser said.
“We also nursed them when they returned from the war, which a lot of them were not in very good shape.”
Her husband William Fraser worked in the phosphate industry which meant the pair temporarily lived in locations such as Nauru and Christmas Island.
The pair had four daughters, two who became nurses and two became teachers.
Mrs Fraser lives independently, but praises her family for the endless support they provide for her.
“All of them do their best to help me,” Mrs Fraser said.
To celebrate her 100th birthday Vision Australia Bendigo held a lunch for clients, volunteers and staff to celebrate the milestone.
Mrs Fraser attends Vision Australia Bendigo every Wednesday as an opportunity for her to socialise.
