Bendigo South East Secondary College council president Sue Masters said the selection process for the position had commenced.
“The Department of Education and Training has decided to appoint an Executive Principal at Bendigo South East College to ensure we get the best applicant for the job to lead school and system improvements at the school and across the region.,” Ms Masters said.
Mr Fleming was placed on a period of extended absence in January 2017 and following more than a year of uncertainty about his future at the school he resigned in May 2018.
DET spokesperson Steve Tolley said executive principals were some of the state’s most experienced and were chosen to lead schools with “significant educational challenges” or which underwent “considerable reform”.
“Executive principals have proven track records in creating strong school cultures, improving student outcomes and building deep connections with the school community,” Mr Tolley said.
“We chose to employ an executive principal at Bendigo South East College in order to attract a highly experienced principal who will be able to lead the school after what has been a difficult time.
“The new executive principal will also take up a leadership role in delivering the Bendigo Education Plan, leading the collaboration between Bendigo schools to support students in Years 7 to 10.”
The DET has no plans to introduce other executive principals to schools throughout Bendigo.
