BENDIGO University has won the Keith Macdonald Cup as the Bendigo region’s leading athletics club in cross-country action for a third year in a row.

Defeated just once in the six rounds of points scoring competition, University dominated Saturday’s running of the Glen Allen Memorial at Woodvale.
Athletes raced 15km or 3km at the Woodvale Recreation Reserve.
Athletes earned points in the long and middle distance events at the invitation runs hosted by South Bendigo, Eaglehawk, University, Bendigo Harriers, as well as the Keith Huddle Memorial and Glen Allen Memorial.
In Saturday’s finale, University
dominated the men’s long distance, but Bendigo Harriers was number one in women’s long distance and men’s middle distance.
University ended the Glen Allen Memorial with a score of 331, with Harriers next best on 217.
A sign of the Cup winner’s dominance was the open 15km in which eight runners from University were in the top 10.
Final standings in the Keith Macdonald Cup were Bendigo University 2481 points, Bendigo Harriers 1507, South Bendigo 616, and Eaglehawk 223.
The only round where University did not lead the points tally was Eaglehawk’s invitation where
Bendigo Harriers racked up 374 and the Uni. line-up was on 283.
In presenting the cup to University president Ross Douglas, Keith Macdonald said University not only worked well as a team, but also had plenty of athletes compete.
Participation was the key to winning the award as in many cases it was athletes from other clubs who won the events.
