The son of Australian boxing legend and two-time world light-welterweight champion Kosta Tszyu will bring with him an undefeated 10-record.
Tszyu’s latest victory – a first round knock-out of Indonesian boxer Stevie Ongen Ferdinandus in Sydney on Friday night – was shrouded in controversy following accusations the veteran southpaw took a dive.
But the 23-year-old refused to buy into the debate while visiting Bendigo this week and said his focus was on September 8 in Bendigo and not what’s ‘already been and gone’.
“I got the bloke with a good over-hand, which got him on the top of the forehead,” he said.
“Unfortunately he didn’t want to continue – he could have gotten back up and made it more of a fight.
“I trained hard for eight weeks, had a good preparation and I just wanted to test my skills; sadly that was cut short.
“I’m just looking ahead, the next step is September 8 in Bendigo.”
While the comparisons to his famous father are inevitable – if not grossly unfair for a young boxer just 18 months into his career – Tszyu remains intent on forging his own reputation.
That will continue against a yet to be determined challenger in Bendigo.
The bout will be his second in a regional city; his last was in Toowomba against Christopher Khan in July last year.
Tszyu still rates the fight, which was the sixth of his career, as one of his most memorable.

“The local (Toowoomba) community really supported me – it was a full house and I had a really huge fan base, which I was very surprised,” he said.
“Hopefully here in Bendigo I will grow my support base even further and the crowd get behind me again.”
Eager to leave an impression on the Bendigo crowd, Tszyu - who is the current WBC Asian Boxing Council Continental super welterweight title holder - has his eyes on a bigger prize once his commitments in central Victoria are done.
He is chasing a shot at the Australian super-welterweight title held by Cameroon-born Australia Sam Colomban.
“I really wanted the Australian title before I had 10 fights,; I couldn’t get that because my opponent is out with an injury,” he said.
“But everything other than that has gone quite smoothly.
“I’ve got better and better each fight; I’ve been tested – gone to a 10-round fight where I’ve had to dig deep.”
A huge ‘Battle on the Goldfields 3’ card will feature a world title eliminator between undefeated Melbourne super-flyweight Andrew Moloney and Panama’s former world champion Luis Concepcion, and a trio of Bendigo fighters in Damien Lock, Scott Tuddenham and Lorrinda Webb.
