TWO seasons after the club had no wins on the football field across any of its senior, reserves or under-18 teams, Bears Lagoon-Serpentine has all three in this year’s Loddon Valley league finals series.
The Bears join Pyramid Hill as the only clubs to have all three football teams in the 2018 finals.
The Bears’ senior and reserves teams each finished fourth and the under-18s fifth in what’s a fine accomplishment given in 2016 all three sides finished on the bottom of the ladder with a 0 in the win column.
The Loddon Valley home and away season wrapped up last weekend with Maiden Gully YCW earning the mantle as the club with the most overall wins.
Across their three football teams and six netball sides the Eagles won 109 of their 140 home and away matches.
The Eagles were the No.1 ranked netball club with 78 wins and – along with Bridgewater – have all six of their netball teams qualified for the finals.
With 33 victories and all three of its teams finishing in the top three, Pyramid Hill is No.1 ranked on the football field for the first time since 2013.
Across the whole league, the team that had the biggest spike in home and away wins from 2017 to 2018 was the Pyramid Hill C reserve netball team.
After going through winless last year, the Bulldogs’ C reserve netballers this year won 12 games to finish third.
The biggest slider has clearly been the Calivil United reserves. The Demons were unbeaten in the home and away season last year before going on to lose the grand final, but this year dropped to the wooden spoon with a 1-15 record.
In a rarity for the league, there are no Calivil United football teams in finals.
