A customer of the store was issued with the counterfeit note on August 2 and they didn’t become aware of the fake note until they tried to purchase something in the store the next day.
“One of the major signs was when the note was scrunched up it wouldn’t flatten out like a legitimate note,” the customer said.
The note has since been handed in to Bendigo Police.
There have been similar reports of counterfeit money circulating throughout the community in recent months, in one incidence $1100 worth of counterfeit notes were discovered in Heathcote.
Earlier in April notes were also discovered at a fast food outlet in Bendigo, which were descriubed to have obvious flaws in texture and appearance,.
