THE Bendigo Thunder will be aiming to build on their solid month of form when they kick off their Northern Football League Women’s finals series on Saturday.
Having gone through a mid-season slump when they lost three out of four matches, the Thunder have regained their spark with five wins in a row in which they have outscored their opposition 53 goals to nine.
Among that winning streak was a 53-point victory last week over the VU Western Spurs – the Thunder’s opponent on Saturday in the qualifying final at Epping Recreation Reserve from 2.10pm.
“Momentum has been a key word we’ve used for the past month and we’ve got back to playing some good team footy,” Thunder coach Luis Alvarez-Harris said on Friday.
“It’s really important we continue to carry that on for, hopefully, the next four weeks.”
The Thunder and Spurs have met three times already this season.
As well as last week’s win, the Thunder also beat the Spurs by 71 points in round three, while the Spurs recorded a 16-point victory in round nine.
The Thunder are close to full strength for the game, but are still missing key forward Bella Ayre (broken finger), while Bianca Jones has been called up to Collingwood’s VFLW team.
