The minister took the opportunity to recognise Ms Anderson’s contribution during her two years as chair of the rural water corporation, which manages approximately 70 per cent of Victoria’s stored water resources, half of Victoria’s underground water supplies, and Australia’s largest irrigation delivery network.
“My focus continues to be on the future of Goulburn Murray Water, its customers, the community and ensuring we have a prosperous Goulburn Murray Irrigation District,” Ms Neville said.
“I’d also like to reassure customers and landholders that this will have no impact to the work currently going on in the District such as delivery of connections or the transformation work.”
It is not yet known why Ms Anderson stepped down from the role.
EARLIER: Patrick McNamara will serve as acting chair of Goulburn-Murray Water as Joanne Anderson makes a sudden departure from her role.
The rural water corporation this afternoon announced Ms Anderson would be stepping down from the role of chair, ‘effective immediately’.
Managing director Pat Lennon wished Ms Anderson all the best for the future and thanked her for her time at GMW.
“Jo came into the business about two years ago, during which time GMW has recognised the need to face the challenges ahead of us in delivering affordable pricing for customers whilst ensuring GMW remains a sustainable business,”
Mr Lennon said Ms Anderson had a great passion for GMW and its staff.
The corporation’s acting chair, Mr McNamara, was Ms Anderson’s deputy.
He was also Deputy Premier of Victoria from 1992 - 1999.
Mr McNamara has a ‘long history in the water sector,’ according to GMW.
More to come.
